Description

LiY—short for Live into Yours, a quote found on the Golden Record sent into space in 1977—perfectly reflects the origins of the trio’s name and the spirit behind their songs. Categorized as post–trip hop electro clash, LiY creates music that calls out to the infinite and the cosmic, drawing inspiration from Portishead, Austra, The Knife, Spiritualized, Brutal Truth, PJ Harvey, and Björk.

The trio seeks to evoke the nostalgia of moments gone by while embracing the possibilities of the future. Through Songs for Telescope, they aim to offer listeners a new gravitational pull—a vantage point from which to observe the universe in a world on the brink. This includes translating the sensation of desire emerging between two beings, a feeling that still allows us to cling to life. Their collaborations with visual artist Sabrina Ratté for video and singer Mykalle Bielinski as backing vocalist enrich their live performances.

Biography

LiY is a musical collaboration based on a simple creative concept: one person composes the music and sends it to another, who writes the lyrics, then sends both to a third person, who sings the words however they wish.

Laurence Dauphinais — Vocals and melodic line of the lyrics

A feminist creator interested in notions of hybridity between forms, she asserts the right not to be an expert in anything. She enjoys imagining innovative ways of staging content deeply rooted in reality and creating dynamic, engaging experiences for an ever-evolving audience.

Simon Stephens — Lyrics and text

He has been writing for the theatre for twenty-five years; his plays have been produced on five continents and translated into more than thirty languages. He has translated Chekhov, Ibsen, and Brecht. He lives in East London with his wife, three children, three cats, a snake, a gecko, and a dog named GilbertandGeorge.

Christian Lapointe — Music and stage direction

Since the early 2000s, he has created more than thirty uncompromising artistic works presented in many renowned performing arts institutions. Experimental and transdisciplinary, he refines an exploratory practice of stage writing that seeks first and foremost its own sense of wonder. He lives off the grid, where—apparently—he also composes music.

**Please note that the doors will close at the start of the performance and no latecomers will be admitted.**
