Description

–os– is a performance unfolding like an experiential magma that blurs the boundaries between theatre, noise and electroacoustic music, performed poetry, rap, and live video art. The artistic collective turns its back on conventional creative models to bring forth a modus operandi freed from all constraints. A surge of survival blows through a world where the political and human dimensions are dead and buried.

The impossible demands that we meet there.

**Please note that the doors will close at the start of the performance and no latecomers will be admitted.**

Biographies

Chantal Labonté

Originally from Windsor, Ontario, Chantal Labonté is a graduate of the Theatre and Political Science departments at the University of Ottawa as well as the Production program at the National Theatre School of Canada. She works in both theatre and dance, in French and English. Sensitive yet rational, Chantal trusts emotional instinct as a source of inspiration while giving major importance to the dramaturgy of light. For her, design is also a collaborative process in which each team member contributes to the visual writing of the performance. She is a two-time recipient of the Prix Rideau and was nominated for a Dora Award for the show In My Body. In parallel, Chantal tours internationally as a lighting designer with Compagnie Marie Chouinard, Bboyizm, and Patrick Watson.

Elena Stoodley

Elena Stoodley is a singer, songwriter, and sound designer. Born in Tio'tia:ke/Montreal, she merges her passion for social justice and Black liberation with her artistic practices.

She studied creative writing and electroacoustic music. She has performed internationally, notably in Cameroon and the Republic of Congo, and facilitates workshops and consultations on anti-oppressive work practices and intersectional inclusion. Her sound design credits include the plays The Mountaintop, The Rootless Tree, Manman LaMer, Black Out, Pipeline (Black Theatre Workshop), M’appelle Mohamed Ali (La Sentinelle), L’amoure looks something like you by Éric Noël, Diggers (in collaboration with Black Theatre Workshop), and S’enjailler by Stephie Mazunya. She also worked on the annual revue Chécké2023 and co-created the piece Survival Technologies with Kamissa Ma Koïta.

Sébastien B. Gagnon

Sébastien B. Gagnon writes in the storm. He has taken part in numerous literary events in Quebec since the early 2000s. After beginnings in the Hip Hop scene, he gained recognition in spoken word and slam before developing performances in which poetry and electroacoustic music intertwine to carry his texts. He has hosted events, shows, open mics, and workshops connected to his artistic, musical, architectural, literary, and social interests. His work is directly inspired by his social and political journey through various forms of activism. His poetry is a vigorous call to collectivize social struggles and ground them in communities.

Joël Lavoie

Joël Lavoie is a composer, sound artist, and sound engineer based in Montreal/Tio'tia:ke. His artistic practice navigates the murky waters of the individual and collective subconscious and explores the social relationships constructed between individuals and their environments. Drawing on themes of memory, elsewhere, and introspection, he encourages audiences to reconsider their surroundings through speculative soundscapes with subjective temporalities. He uses generative synthesis and field recordings—extracting their musicality to highlight their dynamic and contextual nature. His works take the form of performances, installations, and recordings.

He is a member of the Montreal composers’ collective Kohlenstoff and the audiovisual trio mesocosm. He received the Félix Award for Sound Design of the Year (ADISQ, 2023). His works and collaborations have been heard throughout the Americas and Europe.

Jocelyn Pelletier

A graduate of the Conservatoire d’art dramatique de Québec (2005, Acting) and the National Theatre School of Canada (2018, Directing), Jocelyn Pelletier is a director, actor, and writer. For many years, he has contributed to multiple Théâtre Péril productions alongside various collaborators and co-founded the company tectoniK_. In his work, he seeks to understand how distinct technologies—through sensory research and contemporary stage approaches (video, performance, visual arts, sound art, etc.)—can intensify the spectator's experience. He continues to explore traditional practices, both in substance and form. His projects have been presented at La Chapelle, Théâtre Périscope, La Bordée, Mois Multi, Trillium, and Usine C.

Érick d’Orion

Érick d’Orion works in audio art, new media, and installation. He is also a curator, composer, and performer in electronic, electroacoustic, and improvised music.

An interdisciplinary audio artist since 1995, he focuses his research on sonic maximalism and works in realms closely related to noise, musique concrète, free jazz, and electroacoustic music. He also designs sound environments and music for film, theatre, and other interdisciplinary projects.

His work has been presented in concert across Canada, Europe, Australia, Cuba, Mexico, Haiti, and the United States, and broadcast widely. His discography comprises more than forty studio and live albums. He has curated the Sound Installations section of the Festival International de Musique Actuelle de Victoriaville since 2010.

David B. Ricard

David B. Ricard is a multidisciplinary artist working with video, theatre, film, and performance. His creative documentary approach focuses on the introspective capacities of filmed recording. Favoring intimate and everyday themes, he explores intuitive and spontaneous working methods, alone or with collaborators.

As a theatre designer, VJ, and performer, he has developed a personal approach to video scenography. His recent projects and collaborations combine improvised and intuitive image manipulation, performance, and sensitive relationships between video, bodies, voices, music, and other languages. He is pursuing doctoral studies in Literature, Performing Arts, and Screen Arts at Université Laval. His research examines the application of improvisation techniques drawn from Free Jazz to inter-arts stage processes within plural dramaturgies.
