Jimmy Perron

Jimmy Perron, originally from L'Isle-aux-Coudres, is a self-taught multidisciplinary artist known for his works that sensitively and subtly capture nature and the habits of the people around him. Evolving in an environment renowned for its picturesque landscapes, he develops his visual language in front of the exceptional natural sites of Charlevoix. "Whether in painting, sculpture, engraving, or in my installations incorporating digital technology, I draw on the roots of my island territory to offer a new perspective on its history, culture, heritage, and the aesthetics of its landscape. My immediate environment in Charlevoix, which is marked, among other things, by the enveloping presence of the river and mountains, acts as a backdrop from which emerge the human and animal figures that populate my imagination. There is always, in my pictorial language, the clearly identifiable accent of my home, on L'Isle." » A manipulator of materials, his sensitivity is kindled, so to speak, by contact with shapes, colors, textures, matter, and objects. For Perron, creating means transforming what exists, or what has existed, into something new and, to achieve this, exploring the plastic potential of materials to bring them to life in a new object invented from scratch. In this way, he attempts to whisper a language that cannot be deciphered literally, as would be, for example, a tale or a legend. “My approach is instinctive. I observe shapes, I synthesize them. It’s a process that occurs naturally in me, like an archaeologist digging. Associations arise in my mind; previous memories play with my present perceptions, and all of this influences my creative process. Imagination is important to me; it supports instinct.”
