Sanza Percussion and Sadio Sissokho’s show will transport you into an enchanting, little known musical universe featuring the traditional instruments of West Africa. This show invites you to discover the sweet melodies of ancient West Africa, played on the kora (African harp) and the sanza (thumb piano). You will experience of the intricate kora solos and the soaring vocals of Sadio Sissokho, who was born into a musical family from Senegal. Julie-Anne Ricard complements Sadio’s singing with her harmonies, while Trevor Ferrier and François Seguin weave a duo of sanzas with their subtle harmonies and counter-melodies. The hand drums and the percussion of the calabash create the rhythmic energy of this ancient music
Since 2018, the group has explored the common ground of two great forms of improvised music, Mandinka music and jazz. Creative arrangements and the dialogue between the solos of the kora, and the soprano saxophone playing of jazzman Bryan Highbloom bring new life to our music.
