The American trumpeter Wallace Roney, a big prodigy of his mentor Miles Davis, passed awat last April due to COVID-19. Jazz en Juin hopes to pay tribute to this Québec regular by offering this show under the artistic direction of Stanley Péan, great admirer and close friend of the late trumpeter. The host of the show, “Quand le jazz est là” on ICI Musique and the pianist Olivier Madore-Millette (Pulsart Trio) will be supported by experienced musicians for this unique concert. You will be transported by Wallace Roney’s music in this concert featuring a selection of pieces recorded by the trumpeter during his career. This tribute presents him first as lead, with compositions and arrangements of his own, and then also as an accompanist. In almost 40 years of his career, Roney recorded more than 20 albums as a lead musician – the latest one being, Blue Dawn-Blue Nights was released in 2019 – and participated in more than 250 projects. Among his numerous collaborations, we will notably remember the album A Tribute to Miles which was recorded in 1992 alongside Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Tony Williams and Ron Carter. This album won a Grammy!
