Chansons en chantier
The artistic residencies at La Slague and the Chansons en chantier presented at Nuit émergente were two powerful moments of discovery and support for local artists. It’s inspired us to do it again, and to try and make it an attentive listening event, as much for the little push it gives artists as for the pleasure of hearing new songs for the first time. This 2nd edition of Chansons en chantier welcomes 4 Sudbury artists in artistic residency at La Slague. Discover the artists working under the artistic and musical direction of Dan Bédard: Olivier Palkovits; Chanelle Albert; Philippe Mathieu; Sarah Craig.
L'Encyclopédie de l'échec
In the midst of rehearsals, a theatre troupe is faced with the stark realization that their show cannot go on. Their project is a monumental failure. What do you do when everything falls apart? When nothing’s going right?
A collective of artists from Sudbury has come together to tackle the vast question of Failure. Through a succession of scenes, they offer a frank and uncomplicated look at our small and big setbacks. At a time when countless issues threaten the precarious balance of our societies and our daily lives, this project is a bittersweet ode to what creaks, what bends, what threatens to collapse.
Cet été qui chantait
A crow, carried by the breeze, flies over the mountains, the valley and finally the river. Follow it as it guides you to the little house with the green shutters at the end of Petite-Rivière-Saint-François Road. There, you’ll find Gabrielle, eyes alight, observing life in this part of the country: the hay dancing in the wind, the flowers growing on a pile of manure, the black and white birds along the flats calling out at low tide, the fireflies whispering at dusk. Inspired by Gabrielle Roy’s book of the same name, written in 1972, Cet été qui chantait is a show full of gentle imagery. Marie-Ève Fontaine recreates the deeply poetic universe of the Franco-Manitoban author in a puppet theatre setting, inviting you on a sensory journey that will appeal to young and old alike.
McLean présente Picaroon
Somewhat like rock opera, this impressive multimedia concert explores Picaroon’s inner world as he surveys the outer world from the confines of his room. Lighting effects and projected images transform this space into a kaleidoscope of inhabited emotions: a desert island, a run-down room, an abandoned mine. There is discomfort and despair, but also vitality in facing nothingness with acts of creation. With stage direction by Robert Bellefeuille and his band (including two drummers), Mclean revitalizes songs from all of his albums to date and particularly “Anonyme” released in late 2023.
