Unessential Oils est le nouveau projet de Warren Spicer, chanteur du groupe montréalais Plants and Animals. Le projet est inspiré par le jazz, le folk, le Tropicália, Jorge Ben, Daniel Lanois, Miles Davis et plus encore. La musique a été conçue dans un bain. Très ouverte et malléable, elle a été comparée à Alabaster DePlume, Connan Mockasin, Hermanos Gutiérrez et Devendra Banhart.

Unessential Oils is a search for something authentic. Bits and pieces of Warren Spicer’s life’s traumas and weaknesses, successes and breakthroughs, moments of clarity and enlightenment mixed with the mundane and menial. The weight of grief and anger imposed on the joy and ecstatic freedom of new life. “The process was the therapy of working through, the result is more a document than construction, it’s what happened, not what I made happen,” he says. Warren is widely known as the front-person for Montreal band Plants and Animals and as a producer, engineer and mixer (La Force, Comment Debord, Ludovic Alarie). This is his first solo record, an opportunity to take his collective experience and focus on a singular vision.

Totalement Sublime, composé de Marc-Antoine Barbier (Choses Sauvages), de Élie Raymond et de Thomas Bruneau Faubert (Frais Dispo, anciennement Foreign Diplomats), naît d’une envie de créer en se donnant carte blanche. Le deuxième album double complet de Totalement Sublime, Albédo-Parhélie, contient une vingtaine de pièces basées sur le matériel plus ambient et expérimental tiré des cinq concerts de la série exploratoire « THRU OAEE UIE ». À la suite de son impressionnant lancement dans le dôme de la SAT, le groupe présentera maintenant ce nouvel album dans plusieurs festivals cet été. Totalement Sublime, c’est aussi le nom d’une couleur “grège riche” de la compagnie Bétonel.

Totalement Sublime emerged from a longing to create with absolute freedom. With each of their releases, they seamlessly blend electro-pop songs with ambient improvisation pieces, showcasing their distinctive creative style. The Francophone trio crafts contemplative atmospheres, exploring themes like fatigue, heat, nostalgia, and nature. Their collaborative efforts involve experimenting with diverse arrangements, drawing influences from 80s Japanese music and the New York avant-garde scene. The second full-length double album from Totalement Sublime, Albédo-Parhélie, contains around twenty pieces based on more ambient and experimental material drawn from the five concerts of the exploratory series "THRU OAEE UIE".
