The round (or canon) is one of the oldest forms of polyphony, and also one of the simplest. That is something we learned as children, when we transformed a basic melody into harmony by beginning at different times, with our voices following one another. The canon is found in a wide variety of medieval European repertoires, both sacred and secular, ranging from the simplest compositions to virtuosic intricacy.
Ensemble Scholastica will present a selection of the most beautiful, profound and playful rounds of the 13th and 14thcenturies.
