Maria and The Band

Founded in 2011 through an organic collaboration between Brazilian and Canadian musicians, Maria and the Band plays forró pé de serra, a folk music from northeastern Brazil with influences ranging from blues to arabesque.

Pierre Kwenders

Singing and rapping in Lingala, French, English, Tshiluba, and Kikongo, Pierre Kwenders similarly weaves his stories across the boundaries of language and geography. José Louis and the Paradox of Love is a culmination of personal growth and the musical dexterity he has honed over the years, converging his strong songwriting capabilities with the bravado he possesses as a DJ. The album explores an ongoing search to grasp the universal complexities of romance, sometimes through the lens of Kwenders’ own intimate experiences.

Polky

Created by courageous Polish ladies, Polky (meaning “Polish women”) came together through a shared passion for the enigmatic and upbeat style of Eastern European music. By adding a uniquely Canadian, multicultural flavor, the group creates its own original sound. Their debut album titled Songs From Home (2020), nominated for three awards in the Canadian Folk Music Awards in 2022, is a celebration of the multicultural city of Toronto, as well as their Polish roots.

JINJ

JINJ is the pioneer of Armobeat, a fusion of Armenian folk with urban sounds. The collaboration offers Paris-native multi-instrumentalist Sevana Tchakerian an avenue to combine incisive lyrics with the otherworldly tones traditional to her heritage. They are inspired by the majestic mountains and the throbbing rhythm of the night city, in a mixture of bass 808s and shepherd's flutes.

Kubasonics

Kubasonics are arguably Newfoundland's finest Ukrainian band. This award-winning group combines top-flight musicianship spiced with quirky humor, a dizzying array of exotic traditional instruments, and an eclectic high-energy stage show. They have performed across Canada, Eastern Europe and the Caribbean, have released six albums and are frequently featured on regional and national shows.

Soukustek

Soukustek was born under the gaze of the Caribbean Sea, surrounding the coastal city of Cartagena de Indias in Colombia.  Soukustek is dance, joy, and history; it is Africa in Colombia,
blending the rhythms and sounds of guitars that arrived to Colombia from Africa in the 70s.
