Foreign Diplomats gives us one more reason to look forward to the summer season, as June 7th will mark the band’s Montreal return as a headliner. Armed with the long-awaited songs off their new record due this year, the musicians promise a show «infused with rock, sweat and surprises». We’ve been warned. Let’s all remember that their last and highly energetic Montreal shows date back to 2017 (at Café Campus and as part of the Mile Ex End Festival). They did not just sit around for the past two years: the band has been rather busy touring in France or all over Quebec with their Diplovages tour (along with fellow Montreal band Choses Sauvages). The stage has pretty much become their secondary residence.
The quintet is distinguished by its energetic and melodic pop-rock whose orchestrations and vocal performances are reminiscent of Wolf Parade or Arcade Fire. The influence of Talking Heads is also present, both in the bass lines and the voice of the singer. With its first album Princess Flash, the band takes another dimension by appearing on prestigious stages (Osheaga, Quebec City Summer Festival, International Jazz Festival ...) and in many countries (Germany, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, France, Mexico, Switzerland). Foreign Diplomats shows are known for a contagious energy that you can't avoid.
