Cette présentation souhaite retracer les grands moments de cette histoire industrielle pour ensuite aborder les enjeux de conservation et de valorisation de ses traces.

Joanne Burgess

Joanne Burgess, Ph. D, aborde l’histoire de l’industrialisation et du travail, de même que de l’évolution de la société et de l’espace urbain aux XIXe et XXe siècles. Ses recherches intègrent aussi un intérêt pour le patrimoine urbain. Elle a participé à la réalisation d’études visant à documenter le patrimoine du Vieux-Montréal et l’histoire de l’arrondissement historique et naturel du Mont-Royal. Ses réalisations visent à faire de l’histoire un levier de développement social et communautaire. Elle a participé à la Table de concertation du Faubourg Saint-Laurent, à l’Atelier d’histoire de Pointe-aux-Trembles, à des comités d’école du quartier Hochelaga-Maisonneuve et à l’Association québécoise pour le patrimoine industriel.

Saint-Henri—once a village, then an independent municipality, and now a Montréal neighbourhood—is distinguished by its very long and rich industrial past. This lecture will look back on key moments in this industrial history before addressing issues surrounding the preservation and appreciation of its remaining traces.

Joanne Burgess

Joanne Burgess, Ph.D, focuses her research on the history of industrialization and work, as well as the evolution of society and the urban environment in the 19th and 20th centuries. She also has an interest in urban heritage. She has taken part in studies documenting the heritage of Old Montréal and the history of the historical and natural district of Mount Royal. Her work aims to make history a lever for social and community development. She has taken part in the Faubourg Saint-Laurent Roundtable, the Pointe-aux-Trembles History Workshop, school committees in the Hochelaga-Maisonneuve neighbourhood, and the Association québécoise pour le patrimoine industriel (Québec Association for Industrial Heritage).
