Lyne Fortin

La soprano Lyne Fortin se distingue par sa technique vocale et scénique impeccable et sa virtuosité, qui lui permettent de multiplier les acrobaties avec une facilité déconcertante. Reconnue pour la justesse de ses interprétations, elle se démarque notamment par son raffinement dans le répertoire de Mozart, ainsi que par sa puissance vocale et sa sensibilité profonde dans Verdi et Puccini.

Cette artiste prestigieuse a accumulé nombre de succès et de distinctions honorifiques, au fil de sa carrière. Elle a remporté le Concours international de chant Pavarotti, un prix spécial au Concours national des jeunes interprètes de la SRC, le prix Pauline Donalda, le Prix spécial d’interprétation Jean Lallemand au Concours de l’Orchestre symphonique de Montréal, le Premier prix et le Grand prix au Festival national de musique CIBC, un prix au Concours de musique du Québec, et une médaille commémorative célébrant le 125e anniversaire de la Confédération du Canada. Elle a également reçu des bourses du Conseil des Arts du Canada et du Ministère des Affaires culturelles du Québec, ainsi que le prix Raoul Jobin de l’Opéra de Québec. En outre, son alma mater, l’Université Laval, lui a décerné deux médailles : la médaille Raymond Blais, pour célébrer son immense succès et ses réalisations extraordinaires, et la médaille Gloire de l’Escolle, pour sa contribution remarquable à sa profession et à la société.

On a pu l’entendre à de nombreuses reprises en ondes. Elle a notamment participé à la création canadienne de l’Oratorio Liverpool de Paul McCartney à la télévision de Radio-Canada. Cette œuvre constitue la première incursion de Paul McCartney dans l’univers de la musique classique. Composée en collaboration avec Carl Davis afin de célébrer le 150e anniversaire du Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, la création mondiale de ce projet a été hautement médiatisée, en 1991. Madame Fortin a de nouveau participé à cette production au Festival international de musique classique du Printemps de Prague, avec le Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra.

Madame Fortin a également chanté dans le cadre de nombreux concerts à la radio de Radio-Canada, les plus remarquables étant ceux qui présentaient la Messe en do mineur de Mozart, Amadis de Lully et les Poèmes de l’amour et de la mer de Chausson.
She has recorded a Christmas album entitled simply Noël with the Orchestre symphonique de Québec on the Analekta label, for which she was honored with a Félix award at the ADISQ Gala. Her most recent disc, Gardens of Spain, released on Analekta last October, offers a program that consists of popular old songs dressed up in the shades of Nin, Delibes, Bizet and Obradors, as well as odes to the beauty of young girls by Richard Strauss, whom the composer compares to their floral equivalents. A splendid voice and a finely shaded presentation of feeling characterize the great soprano arias of Mozart, which she has also recorded, in this case with the Orchestre Métropolitain. The recital album Lyne Fortin Live, meanwhile, contains magnificent works by Schubert, Wolf, Berg, Ravel, Duparc and Satie. Finally, we should not overlook the album Les Grands duos d’amour de l’opéra français that Ms. Fortin recorded on CBC Records with tenor Richard Margison.

On stage in Europe she has performed with the Opéra flamand in the role of Madame de Tourvel for the world premiere of the opera by Piet Swerts based on Choderlos de Laclos’s Les Liaisons dangereuses, and in the roles of Ginevra in Handel’s Ariodante, Electra in Idomeneo and Madame Lidoine in the Dialogues des Carmélites. And she has toured with Les Violons du Roy.
In the United States she has performed the role of Leïla in Les Pêcheurs de perles with the Baltimore Opera as well as that of Adina in L’Elisir d’amore with the Seattle and Connecticut operas, Thaïs with the Kentucky Opera, Juliette with Opera Pacific, the Countess in The Marriage of Figaro with the Arizona Opera, the roles of Fiordiligi and Antonia in Così fan tutte with Michigan Opera Theatre, Violetta in La Traviata with the symphony orchestras of San Antonio and Akron, and Micaëla with the New Jersey and Portland operas.

In Canada she has collaborated with the Opéra de Montréal, the Opéra de Québec and Opera Ontario as well as with the opera companies of Vancouver, Saskatchewan, Calgary, Edmonton and Hamilton in title roles in Agrippina, Thaïs and Carmen and in the roles of Violetta in La Traviata, Juliette in Roméo et Juliette, Mimì in La Bohème, the three heroines in Les Contes d’Hoffmann, Leïla in Les Pêcheurs de perles, the Countess and Susanna in The Marriage of Figaro, Olga in Fedora, Gilda in Rigoletto, Micaëla in Carmen, Donna Anna, Donna Elvira and Zerlina in Don Giovanni, Fiordiligi in Così fan tutte, Pamina in The Magic Flute, Hanna Glawari in The Merry Widow, Cio-Cio-San in Madama Butterfly, the sole role in Poulenc’s La Voix humaine, and has appeared in Schoenberg’s Erwartung. She has also performed as Stella Starlight in the rock opera Starmania.

Lyne Fortin, who is every bit as impressive on the concert stage as in opera, has been invited as soloist by the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal, the Orchestre symphonique de Québec, the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony, the CBC Vancouver Orchestra, the Orchestre Métropolitain and the Pacific Symphony as well as symphony orchestras in Fort Myers and Akron, where her performances have included the role of soprano solo in Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 and a concert version of Verdi’s La Traviata.
Ultimately, no one can help but enjoy the virtuosity, the technical mastery and the remarkable stage presence of Lyne Fortin. And no one can remain untouched by the beauty of a voice that, after making its way across the world, returns to enchant Québec.

Jean-Michel Dubé

Grand lauréat du Tremplin international 2017 du Concours de Musique du Canada Canimex, Jean-Michel Dubé s’est distingué la même année sur la scène internationale comme lauréat au Concours international German Piano Open pour la meilleure interprétation de l’oeuvre imposée et comme finaliste au Concours international Piana Del Cavaliere. Jean-Michel Dubé fait partie du palmarès 2017 de la « CBC Music » des 30 musiciens classiques de moins de trente ans qui se démarquent au Canada.

Lauréat du Prix Pierre Mantha lors du Concours Prix d’Europe 2016, il a également été le récipiendaire du Prix John Newmark décerné à l’un des gagnants dont les qualités musicales et esthétiques ont retenu l’attention du jury. Son sens musical inné ainsi que sa technique lui ont valu de nombreux éloges tant au Canada qu’à l’étranger.

En tant que soliste on a pu l’entendre avec l’Orchestre Appassionatasous la direction de Daniel Missyk, avec l’Orchestre du Concours de musique du Canada sous la direction de Uri Mayer et avec l’Orchestre Philharmonia Mundi de Montréal, sous la direction de Jean-Pascal Hamelin. Il a également joué avec les Violons du Roy sous la direction de Mathieu Lussier.

Son premier disque, consacré aux œuvres de piano d’André Mathieu, est paru sous étiquette Société métropolitaine du disque – Espace 21. Cet album comportant plusieurs œuvres inédites, a été choisi « Album classique découverte du mois de novembre 2016 » par la Revue La Scena musicale.

Boursier du Conseil des Arts et des Lettres du Québec et du Conseil des Arts du Canada, il a effectué un séjour de quelques mois en Europe en 2017 pendant lequel il a effectué un stage de perfectionnement en piano solo avec le réputé pianiste Philippe Cassard à l’Académie de musique Tibor Varga et en piano 4 mains, avec le brillant pianiste français Hervé Billaut.

Il a fait son entrée sur la scène internationale à l’invitation de France Musique. Son premier album des œuvres du compositeur québécois André Mathieu a été présenté sur les ondes de la station, pour le plus grand bonheur des auditeurs. Quelques semaines plus tard, il a été invité à donner un récital public enregistré dans les studios de France Musique et diffusé à l’émission « Génération Jeunes interprètes » consacrée à la relève internationale. Au programme, Beethoven, Liszt et le «Prélude romantique d’André Mathieu».

Originaire de Cap-Santé au Québec, Jean-Michel Dubé, 26 ans, est titulaire d’un diplôme d’artiste, niveau maîtrise et d’un diplôme de perfectionnement du Conservatoire de musique de Québec où il a travaillé sous la direction de la pianiste Suzanne Beaubien. Au fil des ans, il a participé à de nombreuses classes de maîtres.

In addition to being the winner of the CANIMEX Canadian Music Competition’s Stepping Stone 2017 edition, Jean-Michel Dubé has also distinguished himself on the international scene during that same year by winning the German Piano Open International Competition with the best interpretation of the imposed work, and by being a finalist in the Piana del Cavaliere International Piano Competition. Jean-Michel Dubé is also ranked in the 2017 edition of CBC Radio’s “30 hot Canadian classical musicians under 30.”

Winner of the Pierre Mantha Prize at the Prix d’Europe Competitionin 2016, Jean-Michel was also granted the John Newmark Award, having captured the jury’s attention with his musical and aesthetic abilities. Throughout the years, his innate musical flair and technique have earned him much praise both in Canada and abroad.

As a soloist, Jean-Michel has performed with the Appassionata Orchestra under the direction of Daniel Missyk, with the Canadian Music Competition Orchestra under the direction of Uri Mayer, and with the Montreal Philharmonia Mundi Orchestra under the direction of Jean-Pascal Hamelin. He has also played with Les Violons du Roy under the direction of Mathieu Lussier.

Jean-Michel’s first CD release with the Société Métropolitaine du Disque / Espace 21 label is dedicated to Quebecer composer André Mathieu’s piano works. The album, which features several unpublished musical works, was chosen as the “Classical album of the month for November 2016” by classical music magazine La Scena Musicale.

As the recipient of grants from the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec and the Canada Council for the Arts in 2017, Jean-Michel spent a few months in Europe to attend advanced solo piano training courses with renowned pianist Philippe Cassard at the Tibor Varga Music Academy, and piano four-hands courses with brilliant French pianist Hervé Billaut.

Jean-Michel made his debut on the international scene at the invitation of France Musique. His first CD of André Mathieu’s piano works was played on the radio to the delight of listeners. A few weeks later, he was invited to give a public recital that was recorded in the studios of France Musique and broadcasted on “Génération jeunes interprètes,” a program dedicated to international emerging musicians. The program featured Beethoven, Liszt and André Mathieu’s “Prélude romantique.”

Born in Cap-Santé, Quebec, Jean-Michel Dubé, 26, holds a Master’s degree-level Artist Diploma in Fine Arts and an advanced diploma from the Conservatoire de musique et d’art dramatique du Québec, where he studied under the direction of pianist Suzanne Beaubien. He has participated along the years to numerous master classes.
