Brad Barr

Over a career that spans three decades, Brad Barr has cultivated a uniquely visceral,

bravely intimate approach to the guitar. Best known for his central role in renowned

Montreal group The Barr Brothers, Brad has distinguished himself as a multifaceted

guitarist, composer, singer, producer and improviser. Born in Providence,

Rhode Island, he and his brother(drummer Andrew Barr) moved to

Montreal in 2005 having always worked side-by-side in a kinetic pursuit of personal

and collective self-discovery. Beginning in Boston in the mid-90’s, the brothers

made up 2/3 of improv-rock trio The Slip, touring relentlessly and developing a cult

following in Japan. Arriving in Montreal, they formed The Barr Brothers with

experimental harpist Sarah Pagé, running the harp through fuzz pedals and

inadvertently creating the genre “harp rock”. Each of the band’s three albums has

been nominated for a Juno award, and they have shared the bill with such artists as

My Morning Jacket, Calexico, Bela Fleck, The War on Drugs, Tinariwen, Built to Spill,

The Prodigy, Emmylou Harris, and others. As a soloist, Brad has released two highly

acclaimed albums of instrumental guitar. The Winter Mission, (his latest, released

this year on Secret City Records) has been described as “…an album of riches that

needs to be given plenty of listens and plenty of time. It will certainly reward you.”
