Y'EN A!

Uncanny

Uncanny's core members Etienne Lambert (drums) and Vincent Duchesne (bass) have
known each other since their memory could withstand the passage of time. They were practically
born on stage as performers in multidisciplinary shows. They formed the first incarnation of
Uncanny in 2008 as teenagers. The story of Martin Richard (vocals) arrival into this world is still
echoing throughout the ages. Growing up, he dealt with bullying and found refuge and inspiration
in music. He also performed in several musicals, including Moulin Rouge. In 2014, he submitted a
karaoke video to Uncanny after he heard that they were looking for a new singer. The band gave
him a shot after hearing his performance of Bon Jovi's You give love a bad name. Since then, he
fulfills the doctor's prophecy who said upon Martin's birth: “with a voice like this, he is bound to be a
great singer”. Pierre-Luc Scott (guitar), referred to as the geek in the band joined Uncanny last.
Etienne and him met at Université de Montréal while studying musical composition and electronics.
His interest for pop sensibilities and intricate arrangements rounded up Uncanny's unique sonic
approach.
With a solid line up ready to begin demoing their first record. The idea of creating a fictional
character “The Babylonian” that will be the center piece of the trilogy that will become their first
release. The first chapter “City” begins with “The Babylonian” realizing the fundamental infection of
the environment he lives in. The second chapter “Desert” confronts his expectations with a strong
dose of reality. With many obstacles and difficulties littering his path he finds the final chapter rising
from the edges of his hope. In the last chapter, “Mountain”, the Babylonian looks within for
resolution, enabling him to realize that his journey has just begun.
Through 2018, the band focused on the production of their first studio track and video for
Spineless. The track was produced by up and coming Canadian producer William Gaboury who
will also be behind the board for the upcoming full length release. The video was produced by
Montreal based “Les Orphelins” and highlights the band's unique blend of Heavy Prog riffs and
arrangements with a more accessible vocal and melodic approach. The band will be heading into
the studio this fall to begin the recording phase. The album will be released in 2019 through
Distrokid (digital) and P.A.G. (physical). The band plans to have their live show ready to hit the
road in support of the album across Canada, at Festivals and key industry events around the
world.

Charley Deguedine

Grown Up Avenger Stuff

Behind The Music

Driven by a fiery mix of hard indie rock and dark, intense life affirming moments Charlotte NC based Grown Up Avenger Stuff – a powerhouse unit driven by veteran guitarist John Thomsen and his sons: Hunter (bass, vocals) and Tyler (drums/percussion, vocals) - emerged as a true global sensation in 2015.

They have extensively toured the US including appearances at one of the largest music festivals Summerfest (Milwaukee), NoDa Summerfest (Charlotte), Center of the Universe Fest (Tulsa) and batches of shows at South By Southwest.

Their freewheeling, high energy live shows have gone international with dates at K-Days in Edmonton (one of Canada’s top festivals), Indie Music Week and Canadian Music (Toronto), and toured European cities in Italy, Poland, Latvia, Estonia and Finland.

Capturing their wild, growing momentum beyond the status of “regional sensation,” GUAS – which first hit the local scene in Charlotte in 2009 - has notched a growing number of critical accolades from key indie music tastemakers. Beneath The Grid named them the “2014 Breakout Artist of the Year.”

Rock World Magazine said they “haven’t been this excited since I first heard Alabama Shakes.” Mid TN Music puts them “on par with bands such as the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Queens of the Stone Age, Florence and the Machine and Grace Potter and the Nocturnals.” Bandblog says it all about GUAS’ growing impact in a few words: “May possibly become your new favorite band.”

GUAS has had the honor of working with Mark Needham, a renowned engineer who has worked with The Killers, Shakira, Stevie Nicks, Chris Isaak and Blues Traveler, among countless others.

Needham says of GUAS: “I love what this band is doing. They have a very unique sound and they ROCK!”

The sound comes from the unique histories of the GUAS band members. John’s years of pure rock guitar work, combined with Tyler and Hunter’s gospel roots playing in church every week starting at twelve years old. The band has been honored to have worked with incomparable powerhouse female singers on past recordings. Each current member of GUAS is a multi-instrumentalist and their love of many music styles brings uniqueness to an effortless, exhilarating rock and roll energy.

As John says, “What you get from us live is pure fun rock and roll. The connection and chemistry between us is so strong, especially between Hunter and Tyler, that there are times when it feels like magic on stage – and there’s no better feeling than when we’ve got the energy going and we’re connecting with the audience. It’s taken us a few recordings to emerge with our own sound free from the references to our influences, and there’s freedom in knowing who we are and being able to express everything in our own unique way.”
