Derek Séguin

Montreal-based Derek Seguin is one of the most sought after stand up comedians on the international circuit. He has performed at the prestigious invitation-only Just For Laughs festival an impressive six times. Last year he filmed a gala set for HBO at the festival where he received a standing-ovation at the city’s 3,500 seat Place des Arts. This led to an invitation to perform at this year’s Nasty Show. GQ Magazine’s Comedy Editor reported that: “Montreal-comic Derek Seguin stole one of the most star-studded gala shows last year from host Whitney Cummings. This year he appeared in The Nasty Show (in which the stand-ups perform their most shocking and filthy material) and proceeded to steal that too. A true star and Montreal’s pride and joy.” The Montreal Gazette enthused that: “Montreal-area comedian Derek Seguin earned a standing ovation for his set during the ninth Just for Laughs gala at the Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier in Place des Arts in Montreal Sunday, July 28, 2013. Derek Seguin had me gasping for air, I was laughing so hard at the detailing of his second date with his Newfoundland girlfriend. If you require some insight into the particularities of fellatio, well you just watch for this special. What made it great, however, was not the boldness of his material but that he described it all in such childlike wonder. Brilliant.” Derek’s other televised appearances include performances at the CBC Winnipeg and Halifax festivals, The Newfoundland Comedy Festival, the Grand Rire du Quebec’s Comedie Club series as well as the Just for Laughs Comedy Special, “Oh Canada!”. He has also appeared on CBC Radio’s, “The Debaters” more than twenty-five times and recorded two episodes of CBC television’s, “The Debaters”. Undeniably one of Canada’s hottest comedians, he has been touring clubs and theatres across North America intensely for the past few years and his debut concert album “Newfie Octopus” is a bestseller on CD Baby and on iTunes. Whether he’s ragging on politics or describing life with his children, he brings us into his perspective without preaching any selfish point of view. His undeniable charm makes him simply fun to watch and listen to and is in large part why he is one of Canada’s most “in demand” comedians. The quintessential performer, Derek is a stand-up comedian, actor, host, narrator, voice actor and most importantly, father of 3 beautiful children… and all this, in both English and French (especially the “papa” part). A consummate professional, Derek is at home on stage in a comedy club, conference centre, theatre, arena, school or arts centre. He tailors his sets for all audiences and can work clean or filthy. There is no event that won’t be livened up by the addition of Derek’s natural charm, honed comedic genius and warm, witty banter. Audiences love him. Bookers love him. You will too. Sylvain Larocque

Humorist – Author – Comedian – Politician – Speaker Before Sylvain began a comedy career, he studied chemistry at McGill University. Later, he got a bachelor’s degree in commerce from the University of Montreal. After graduation, he became a representative for a major computer company, and started doing stand up comedy here and there in various comedy clubs at night. After a very short time, there was such demand for his comedy style that he was able to devote himself exclusively to comedy, touring across Canada in English, and in French, and eventually all the way to France and Switzerland. Later, Sylvain also became a writer for some of the most popular TV shows in Quebec and several of the best comics in the business. In English Canada, his talent led him to be featured in 8 JUST FOR LAUGHS comedy festivals where he participated in the Just for laughs Galas on the big stage as well as several other festival venues, such as “Comedy Night in Canada,” “Bubbling with laughter,” and “The Montreal Show.” His other television credits in English Canada include his own episode of the critically acclaimed CBC series “Comics”, as well as “The founding nations of Comedy” from the Winnipeg Comedy Festival, in which Sylvain shared the stage with comedians Derek Edwards and Shaun Majumder. Sylvain also co-hosted a CBC comedy special called “Crossing the main” with Montreal comic David Acer. On radio, Sylvain has participated in several episodes of the hit show “Madly off in all directions” hosted by Lorne Elliot. In French Canada, Sylvain is a well-established star, greatly appreciated by the general public. He has participated in 12 Juste pour Rire comedy festivals in Montréal as both performer and head writer on the galas. He has written and co-produced three one-man shows, as well as an interactive theatre play that went on to become a huge success across the province. Four times, Sylvain has won the WRITER OF THE YEAR AWARD at the prestigious Oliver Awards Gala, which celebrates Quebec’s top comedic performers and writers. He was also awarded a GEMINI AWARD for his work on a French-Canadian television series called “Un gars, une fille”, which went on to be exported to over thirty countries worldwide. This extensive and skilled background makes Sylvain the perfect choice to host, emcee or simply do stand-up comedy at any corporate event. A big plus is that he can do the job in FRENCH, in ENGLISH or BILINGUALLY, switching languages back and forth, adjusting to the crowd, making everybody feel happy and a part of the event. His business background and his clean, sure-fire comedic style enable him to be in tune with the corporate environment. Furthermore, his writing talent makes it possible for him to produce customized material, if so required, for any corporate venue. sylvain-larocque.com/
