EMMA FRANK

Depending on when you walk in on a song, Emma Frank's music might sound like folk or jazz, even R&B. It's music that never stays put, full of moving parts, shifting tempos, winding melodies. Often compared to Joni Mitchell for her risk-taking and sincere songwriting, Emma's music belongs to the new generation of jazz vocalists and songwriters like Gretchen ParlatoBecca Stevensor Aoife O'Donovan.

Her latest release, on The 270 Sessions label, The People We're Becoming, has been met with critical acclaim. Backed by her nimble and powerful quintet, composed of Martin Heslop on bass, Isis Giraldo on piano, Simon Millerd on trumpet and Marc Beland on drums, Emma Frank delivers rich and ethereal music built on subtly complex arrangements. Emma's songs are journeys of self-discovery, layered compositions that flow into improvisation, all framed by Emma's insightful and moving lyrics and her warm, gossamer voice that Leif Vollebekk describes "like leather on silk."

Emma Frank and her band have performed at Festival International de Jazz de Montreal, at NXNE, Pop Montreal, and the Toronto Jazz Festival. Stay tuned for dates on the west coast of Canada and the U.S.
